In this piece, I wanted to convey the five senses. The main sense that I chose to focus on was sight because it is the sense that I rely on the most. For this artwork, I was inspired by Tarsila Do Amaral because of her use of bright colors and minimal shading within her artworks. In my work, I mimicked these techniques so that the focus on the sense of sight was more noticeable. To move the audience's eyes to the center of my piece, I made the objects in the locker brighter.

This piece was inspired by Angelica Alzona, known for depicting deeper meanings behind her artworks. In her piece, “Mask,” she depicts how society views darker skin tones as less beautiful than that of lighter skin tones. I chose to depict a similar view of beauty in my piece. In my artwork a woman of a darker skin tone is holding a mask with a lighter skin tone up to her face. Behind her are typical phrases that Asian women often hear reflecting beauty standards in Asia.

This collage piece was inspired by Megan Coyle who used pieces of magazines within her artwork. In her collage, she put together pieces of similar colors together to make a cohesive object. In my piece, I used magazine pieces to mimic her style, by putting together pieces of similar colors to make objects in my collage. I made the decorations within my piece out of colored pencil so that the audience's attention would be drawn to them due to the difference in texture.

In this piece, I wanted to convey animal cruelty within fashion. I was inspired by Keith Haring’s “Wedding Invitation,” where he used bold black outlines and simple colors. I used similar techniques within my artwork, outlining the snakeskin purse so that the audience's eyes would move to the center of my piece. I chose to use a color palette which consisted of white, black, and red, similar to Haring’s work.

The focus of my art piece was animal cruelty within science. I wanted to show the effects that scientific testing can have on these animals. This piece was visually inspired by Frank Webb, a watercolor artist who used dark values and minimal shades. I chose to mimic his techniques within my art piece by using saturated blues, purples, and browns. I chose these colors because they represent loneliness and sadness. I did this so that the audience would understand the feelings of the monkey.
